Don Brubaker has been sports director at Newscenter 25 since August, 1984. This Houston native came to Victoria after four and a half years working in the sports department at KPRC-TV in Houston. Before graduating from the University of Houston Don also worked in the sports departments of the Houston Post and KPRC radio. While at KAVU, Don has won state awards for his sportscasting from the Texas Girls Coaches Association and by the Associated Press.

In 2010, Don received the sports award from the African-American Chamber Of Commerce of Victoria. In 2011, Don received state Sportswriter of the Year honors from TAPPS. In that same year Don and “Friday Football Fever” were featured in “Texas High School Football: More Than The Game”, a special exhibit at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. In 2012, Don received the golf media excellence award from the Southern Texas PGA. Don and his wife, Cecilia, have two grandsons, Nick and Luke.
